My Teaching Philosophy

(Wednesday, April 14, 2010) My teaching philosophy:
  • I believe teaching provides the encouragement, the resources, the support, the environment and the relevance for learning.
  • I believe teaching is a dynamic process, shaped by the interactions in the classroom, with each other and with the content.
  • I believe teaching acknowledges and values and empowers individuals.
  • I believe teaching is a collaborative and cooperative endeavor. We learn from each other. We learn with each other.
  • I believe teaching provides feedback to the learner and for the teaching process. When we openly communicate with each other, we improve teaching and learning.
  • I believe teaching and learning are linked and interwoven with each other. There can be no teaching without learning, and there can be no learning without teaching.
  • I believe technology can greatly expand the teaching process. The use of technology to improve or extend teaching and learning will be encouraged, demonstrated, facilitated and modeled.

  • Teaching is making a connection, with the learner, with the content, with other teachers, and with ourselves. It is so much more than merely lecturing.
  • Teaching is empowering for the learner.
  • Teaching enriches the human condition.
